Gore: "US Abuses Arabs" - The Democrats Just Don't Get it

February 13, 2006 -- JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Former Vice President Al Gore told a mainly Saudi audience yesterday that the U.S. government committed "terrible abuses" against Arabs after 9/11 and said most Americans opposed such treatment.

Gore also accused the Bush administration of playing into al Qaeda's hands by "thoughtlessly" blocking visas for Saudis.

Fifteen of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudis who got visas under a visa "express" program. It was ended after 9/11, and Saudis are now subject to tougher scrutiny.

Gore said Arabs in the United States had been "indiscriminately rounded up...and held in conditions that were just unforgivable ... Unfortunately, there have been terrible abuses, and it's wrong."

Here we go again. Another Democrap that just doesn't get it. And these guys wonder why they can't win any national elections. One of the leaders of the Democratic Party goes to FOREIGN SOIL to criticize U.S. policy. Do they not get that the Arabs are the enemy? I mean it couldn't be any more obvious. Liberals constantly complain aboutcharacterizationss of them as weak and not having the capacity to deal with the global war on terror. Then you have their leader saying that we should make it easier for citizens from terror sponsoring nations to get visas? FOR WHAT? As a gesture of good faith? That seems to me to be both a foolish and dangerous policy. I for one am happy that terrorists are having a harder time getting Visas to enter the U.S.

What's even worse is that Gore is going on foreign soil and telling our enemies that we indiscriminatelyy rounded up (Arab Americans) and held them in deplorable conditions". Basically fanning the flames of the hatred that alreadyexistt. Between Gore and Jimmy Carter we should all just surrender to the Muslims and get ready for the world Islamic State. Asalam Alakem

Stumbled across your blog and this post bothered me a bit. Do you really mean to suggest that all "Arabs" are "our" (which I assume means the people of the United States) enemies? It's easy to make that statement but it ignores that the vast majority of Arabs do not support terrorism. It ignores the fact that the only person who has actively tried to turn this into an "us vs. them" confrontation between Arabs and the rest of the world is Osama bin Laden.
Secondly, I am deeply troubled by the assertion that people from the United States should not make criticisms of our government in foreign countries. Would you suggest then that criticism is somehow more acceptable when done in the United States? The attitude of many Republicans seems to be that NO criticism is acceptable.
Finally, it's easy to point to Jimmy Carter and Al Gore as the culprits of anti-American sentiment, but if the conditions they described did not exist in places like Guantanamo Bay, they certainly would have no reason to criticize the government. Which is wrong? The politician who points out the abandonment of our values through policies that excuse torture or the politician who abandoned our values and condoned torture in the first place? If the "image" of America is so important that you would suggest remarks that damaged that image were almost treasonous, then why were decisions made that would allow for the perception of America as a nation that endorses torture made?

You just can't have it both ways. Either we're waging a war on terror against terrorists or we're engaging in a war against Arabs. If it's against terrorists, the the vast majority of Arabs are our friends and allies. If it's against "Arabs" then we're really waging the war Osama bin Laden sought to start in the first place. Secondly, you can point the finger at the whistleblower for pointing out the malfeasance or you can go after the source of that malfeasance. I'd suggest that the whistleblower is the patriot, not the person who authorized the improper activities in the first place.

As you so eloquently put it, those are the views of a "Democrap." Thank you so much for attacking about half the population of the United States. I'm sure all of us who vote Democratic would really appreciate your thoughts after that characterization.

Thanks for your comment. If you feel that it is ok for the leader of the Democratic party to go on foreign soil and make up lies and exaggerations about indiscriminant round ups of American Arabs for no reason other then to fuel the flames of hatred then we simply disagree about what is appropriate.

As for your concerns about lumping all Arabs in with the terrorists I have seen minimal evidence contrary to such a leap. The religion of Islam preaches hatred and death to infidels as part of its basic teachings. It is a fundamental tenet of Islam today. I'm not saying that every individual Atab or Muslim person feels that way but the religion itself condones terrorism.
